Reading is a gift that no one can take away.

When reading this statement you might ask yourself what does this really mean? How is reading a gift? It's not something that was given to me, but rather something I had to learn. I would agree that reading really is a gift that each person who is literate has been blessed with. I say that because even in the United States there are millions of individuals who have not had the opportunities and the tools to become literate. Because we are constantly surrounded by the unavoidable mass of words in our culture and in any culture, it is unfortunate to see those individuals who are illiterate struggle through day to day life.

If you have the ability to read, then you should be eager to share this gift with someone else. By taking the knowledge you have been privileged with and the initiative to be proactive; you could forever change an illiterate individuals life and even influence the long term literacy rate of our country.  To share the gift you have been given, you can pledge at Million Book Read to read to a child during the week of Super Bowl and explain to them how reading is a privilege and a gift. Help change someone's life by teaching or encouraging them to read!
